K9 Law Enforcement Policy-Sisseton Housing and Redevelopment Commission

Sisseton Housing and Redevelopment Commission

K9 Law Enforcement Policy

Sisseton Housing and Redevelopment Commission recognizes the steady increase of illegal and illicit drug use nationwide. The National Institute on Drug Abuse conducted a study in 2013 which found that as much as 24.6 million Americans aged 12 or older had used an illicit drug. 19.8 million individuals, aged 12 and older, admitted to currently using marijuana.

In order to combat this dangerous trend, the Sisseton Housing and Redevelopment Commission has instituted a K9 Law Enforcement Policy. At random, a K9 officer and handler is brought on to Sisseton Housing and Redevelopment Commission Property to conduct a "sniff" of all common areas. Common areas include Community rooms, laundry rooms, parking lots, and hallways; any such area where there is not an expectation of privacy.
